REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2012 The regular school board meeting was called to order by Chair Steve Eklund at 7:01 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was given. Members present: Steve Eklund, Max Eng, Tony Cuda, Angie Flowers, Robert Hughes, Dan Klemz, and Supt. Gregory Winter. Members absent: Zane Braund. Motion by R. Hughes, second by M. Eng to adopt the agenda as printed. Carried. Chair Steve Eklund administered the Oath Of Office swearing-in new school board member Dan Klemz. Motion by T. Cuda, second by R. Hughes to approve the minutes of the August 20 Regular school board meeting; approve the September bills, $569,896.94; and accept the September Treasurer's report. Carried. There was nothing addressed under Open Forum. Student Council Member Shaun Hoilenkamp reviewed the council's written report. He updated the school board on Homecoming Week activities. Elementary Principal Jeff Eklund reviewed his written report; which included information regarding Measures of Academic Progress training and testing, Literacy implementation, Kindergarten staffing, teacher observation schedule, and Bomber Pride activities. Assistant Principal Judy Adams reviewed her written report; updating the board on state mandated drills and student enrollment. High School Principal Justin Sawyer reviewed his written report; which included a review of the MMR scores and PLC activities. Activities Director Tim Malone reviewed his written report, including Fall participation numbers. OTAS Officer Mike Thompson reviewed his written report. Community Education Director Cheryl Arnold reviewed her written report. DAC Coordinator Joan Proza reviewed her written report. Sup't. Winter's report to the board included updates on recent meetings and conferences attended. He updated the board on the technology, HVAC, north wall and elementary gym floor projects. He reported on the views expressed at the MSBA Fall Conference. Mr. Winter explained to the board, and the public in attendance, the ramifications of the upcoming effect of sequestration at the Federal Congressional level. Board members reported on individual meetings and activities attended. Several board members attended this year's open houses and felt that they went very well. Motion by D. Klemz, second by M. Eng to approve the employment of Amie Shockman to fill the Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional, effective Sept. 4, 2012, Step 1. Carried. Motion by T. Cuda, second by A. Flowers to approve the following lane advancement requests: Katie Blomdahl, from BA+30 to BA+45 (Step 7, $43,545); Craig Kotsmith from MA to MA+30 (Step 6, $45,689); and, Aitor Leniz from MA to MA+15 (Step 11, $57,298); all advancements effective retro to the start of the 2012-2013 school year. OXFORD TOWNSHIP SNOWPLOWING POLICY 1.Roads will not be plowed unless more than three inches of snow has fallen. 2.The township will not dispatch snowplows until the snow has stopped. During an extended snowfall exceptions may be made. Snowplows will not be dispatched when poor visibility could cause hazardous situations. 3.The township is not responsible for driveways plugged by the plow in the normal course of clearing the township roads. 4.Township residents: a.The township will not be responsible for mailboxes or fences hit by equipment when they are not properly located and installed. b.Township residents are reminded that it is unlawful to plow snow from a driveway across a public road. Piles of snow left on or near the traveled portion of the road can freeze in a solid mass creating a hazardous situation for vehicles and snowplows. Accidents and damages caused by snow piles placed in a roadway may result in liability to the landowner. c.Township residents are reminded to remove parked vehicles from township roads to assist in snow removal. d.When directed by a supervisor, the town board chairman or the Sheriff's department will make an emergency plowing effort through private property.
