REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Monday, August 20, 2012 The regular school board meeting was called to order by Chair Steve Eklund at 7:01 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was given. Members present: Steve Eklund, Tony Cuda, Zane Braund, Robert Hughes, and Supt. Gregory Winter. Members absent: Max Eng, Angie Flowers. Motion by R. Hughes, second by T. Cuda to adopt the agenda; with the addition of the following: the approval of the School Improvement Plan; the appointment of a new school board member to complete the term vacated by the resignation of Tammy Ceaglske; and, one additional employment item. Carried. Motion by T. Cuda, second by Z. Braund to approve the minutes of the July 11 Working, the July 11Special, July 16 Regular, and July 30 Special school board meetings; approve the August bills, $423,620.77; and accept the August Treasurer's report. Carried. There was nothing addressed under Open Forum. Superintendent Winter introduced Mr. Jeffrey Eklund, Braham's new Elementary Principal. The board welcomed Mr. Eklund to Braham's administrative team. Mr. Eklund reviewed his Elem. Prin's. report; which included information regarding Targeted Services, Measures of Academic Progress training, Literacy implementation, new staff, and State Testing results. Assistant Principal Judy Adams reviewed her written report; indicating that the high school handbooks are ready for the start of school and the Open House plans are underway. High School Principal Justin Sawyer reviewed his written report; which included updates on summer activities and programs, staff technology training, new staff, and MCA Scores. Motion by T. Cuda, second by R. Hughes to approve the 2012-2013 Coaching and Fine Arts Assignments as submitted by AD Tim Malone. Carried. Mr. Malone updated the board on the participation numbers. OTAS Officer Mike Thompson reviewed his written report. There have been several updates/ additions to the School Improvement Plan for submission to the SDE. These additions have been reviewed and accepted by the SDE. Motion by Z. Braund, second by R. Hughes to approve the School improvement Plan for submission to the State Department of Education. Carried. Sup't. Winter's report to the board included updates on recent meetings and conferences attended. He reported on upcoming events in preparation for the start of the new school year. Board members reported on individual meetings and activities attended. Following discussion, motion by T. Cuda, second by Z. Braund to appoint former school board member Dan Klemz to fill the board vacancy created by the resignation of Tammy Ceaglske. Motion carried unanimously. Mr. Klemz has agreed to accept the the position if appointed. Motion by R. Hughes, second by T. Cuda to accept the letter of retirement submitted by Special Education teacher John Benzen, effective October 2, 2012. Carried. Mr. Benzen is currently on an extended leave of absence and will not be returning for the start of the new school year. Motion by T. Cuda, second by R. Hughes to approve the following employment recommendations: Tracy Fix - part-time DAC Assistant for the 2012-2013 school year, with a salary of $12,729.60; Elizabeth Peterson, Title I Paraprofessional, effective Sept. 4, 2012, Step 1; and, JeanAnn Mattson - SIG Parent Engagement Coordinator for the 2012-2013 school year, with a salary of $20/hour - approx. 20/hrs per week. Carried. Motion by R. Hughes, second by T. Cuda to approve the lane advancement request of Britne Engelking, from the BA+45 to MA (Step 6, $43,451); effective with the start of the 2012-2013 school year. Carried. Motion by Z. Braund; second by T. Cuda to authorize calling for bids for the lease agreement on the school owned property (farm land) for the 2013 growing season. Carried. Superintendent Winter will be contacting members of the School Board Policy Review Committee to set up a meeting. Those members are T. Cuda, A. Flowers and R. Hughes. Chair Eklund reminded all present that the regular September school board meeting is set for Monday, September 17th, 7:00 pm, BAHS Community Room. Motion by T. Cuda, second by R. October 2, 2012 Sealed bids for the construction of the Stanford Township Hall will be received by Stanford Township Board of Supervisors at the Stanford Township Hall, 5050 261st Avenue NW, Isanti, Minnesota until 2:00 P.M., D.S.T., October 2, 2012, at which time they will be publicly opened and read aloud. The bid will be for a single prime contract to include general, mechanical and electrical construction. Deposits will be returned to all prime bidders who submit bona fide bids and return the Documents in good condition within (10) days after the receipt of Bids. Each bid shall be accompanied by a bidder's bond or a certified check made payable to the Owner for an amount equal to 5% of the bid as bid security. ATHENS TOWNSHIP SNOW PLOWING BIDS Athens Township is requesting sealed bids for snow plowing 42 miles of roads and sanding as needed in Athens Township during the 2012-2013 snow season.
