On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota, executed a search warrant at 3489 395th Ave. N.E., Stanchfield.
The warrant was based on a report of a large amount of cats that were suffering from infectious diseases and very dirty conditions.
Officers found cats in cages in the garage, inside the home, in the basement in cages, and outside in an enclosed area. The owner of the cats, Kathy Leick, operated “Love ‘Em or Leave ‘EM” cat shelter out of her home. She cooperated with law enforcement and the humane society and agreed to voluntarily surrender 105 cats.
Those cats were taken to the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota in Golden Valley to be examined. At this time, it appears that the majority of the cats will be able to be adopted out.
The Isanti County Public Health is issuing an abatement order to clean the inside of the house, and the owner will need to apply for a kennel license for the six dogs she owns. County ordinance requires a kennel license for three or more dogs.
The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Animal Humane Society of Minnesota, Isanti County Public Health, Isanti County Zoning and the Braham Fire Department.
