Secretary of State Ritchie details process for recount of Coleman-Franken election Print E-mail
ImageA recount won’t take almost five months like back in 1962, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie said of a recount of the U.S. Senate race. Ritchie detailed the process of a recount Nov. 5 at the Capitol, pointing to the last statewide recount back in 1962 when Karl Rolvaag defeated Republican governor Elmer Andersen by 91 votes.

ImageIncumbents seemed to hold their ground in this year’s 2008 General Election held Nov. 4. State Representatives Rob Eastlund and Tim Faust were re-elected to their respective districts, and Larry Southerland and Kurt Daudt were re-elected as county commissioners.

The day after Minnesota’s local state and national elections, imagine walking into the central business district of your community and finding this: “Tanks blocking streets, soldiers knocking down doors and shooting people,” and what a reporter describes as an “apocalyptic frenzy of rape, robbery and random killings.”

Impossible? Inconceivable? So far, yes. But many of these things have happened within the last year, in European and African countries.
