The Art and Science Academy of Isanti broke ground on July 18 for their new middle school building to house fifth through eighth grades.

The school is expected to be done around mid-October, and will be around 20,000 square feet. The school will be located just north of the existing school at 903 Sixth Ave. Court NE.

Patrick Gaughan, of Gaughan Companies, is optimistic for the future of the Art and Science Academy.
“I think part of the vision is to have an education that completes the whole person, the arts, the singing, theatre, science,” he said.

This is the “first phase” of the project. The next step for the Art and Science Academy is to add a high school and early childhood education center.

Isanti Mayor George Wimmer is thrilled to see how the Art and Science Academy is expanding in the city.

“It is great for the whole community and for education across the board,” he said.

The new middle school will be one story and have 10 classrooms and up to 250 students, and the site exceeds parking requirements by providing 33 stalls.

The parking lot is designed to have buses and staff enter at the northern entrance and parents and visitors will enter from the southern entrance.
