This summer, Play Inc.’s Junior Theatre Troupe will perform the musical “Honk! Jr.,” a musical created by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

“Honk! Jr.” is a musical retelling of the ugly duckling story, and is full of song and dance that the whole family can enjoy.

“Honk! Jr.” will be presented at the Hardy Performing Arts Center at Cambridge-Isanti High School on July 21 and July 22 at 7 p.m. as well as 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23. Doors open a half-hour before the show. Tickets are available online at www.playinconline.org as well as at the door.

The story begins with Ugly discovering he is not like anyone else on the farmyard and becoming dismayed at the way people treat him. He leaves the farm and becomes friends with other animals such as geese and frogs. Ugly is sought after by both the cat (looking for a quick snack) and his mother (who just wants to bring her son home).

The story is an incredible family-centered tale involving important issues that everyone can relate to. The characters deal with bullying, acceptance, making friends and learning to just be yourself.

Students from the East Central Minnesota area have been working for the last two months on this musical. They have been working hard to create costumes, dances, characters and songs the whole family will enjoy.
