Isanti County Historical Society offers variety of activities during County Fair

Doug Ohman, Minnesota photographer and historian, will be at the Isanti County Historical Society during the Isanti County Fair, July 19-23, again this year.

Each year Ohman brings a new series of lectures peppered with his engaging photography from throughout Minnesota. Sponsored by the Isanti County Historical Society (located in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds) – enjoy topics Wednesday to Friday on: Going to Work, Silos and Windmills, Schoolhouses Memories, Cabins of Minnesota, Uncovering History – Metal Detecting, and Farm Equipment of Yesteryear.

Come out to their corner of the Fair to learn about rug making, spinning yarn and to sample a piece of flat bread made on a pioneer cabin stove. Live demonstrations will be hosted at the historic Mattson-Norberg Cabin and the Olson Summer Kitchen each day of the Fair.

Brand new this year, they have historic cars and trucks on display, and an historic photo booth experience with photographer Jo Jo Spencer – (historic costumes available) – these events will happen on Friday and Saturday. “Good Food All Day Long” with new breakfast offerings will be available throughout the day and into the evening at the History Center Cafe.

During the Fair, exhibits in the great room of the History Center will focus on the historic timeline of schoolhouses in Isanti County. In preparation for the All School Reunion coming up Aug. 19, historic yearbooks from the turn of the century will be available to view along with interesting stories about Cambridge-Isanti alumni. Did you know that one of our alumni – Bruce Hagen – piloted the Navy helicopter that picked up the astronauts from Apollo 16 after splash down?

If you enjoy music, then join us on Thursday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to hear the contemporary rock and blues styling that Cambridge locals The Gillespies (Eben, Barb and Jesse) have to offer. They are a fun and engaging family troupe. Then, on Friday, July 21, we will host music from the deck with Kenny Krona and Rick Stener (also local talent from Isanti County) offering acoustic, rock and blues in the same time slot.

Would you like a chance to donate to win one of these four great prizes?

A Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker II sponsored by Genesis Wireless, a Samsung 24-inch Smart LED TV sponsored by Cambridge State Bank, a case of assorted wines sponsored by North Folk Winery, and a refurbished blue Dell laptop computer sponsored by Rum River Computers. Come out to the History Center to offer a $5 donation for a chance to win one of the four great prizes. You can donate to win any or all, and do not need to be present to win. Winners will be announced at the close of the Fair on Sunday.
