Update on CIHS track teams

C-I girls track ready for state
The Cambridge-Isanti girls track team have been firing on all cylinders this season, and that did not stop at the Section 7AA finals held June 3 at Cambridge-Isanti High School.

The girls saw several medal winners across the board, and two state worth performances.

Junior Kelese Patton took fifth in both shot put and discus, freshman Jaqueline Olander took fifth in the 200, and sophomore Jessica Illg took fifth in the 400.

Sophomore Char Morke will be heading to state after winning the section title in the pole vault at 11-3. Morke broke the school record earlier this season at 11-6. After falling three inches shy of her own record, Morke clearly has what it takes to make a strong run in the state meet.

Joining Morke will be the 4×200 relay team made up of, freshmen Jacqueline Olander and Chloe Nelson, sophomore Jackie Orr and senior Hannah Haight. The girls took second in the section meet, and set a new school record in the process with a time of 1:46.26.

Come and cheer on your state bound Bluejackets at the state meet on June 9 and June 10 at Hamline University.

C-I boys’ relays finish strong at section meet
The Cambridge-Isanti boys track team had a strong showing at the Section 7AA meet on June 3.

Among the boys’ several medal winners were two relay teams on the edge of a trip to state, and one that is Hamline bound.

The boy’s relays were looking sharp with well-timed exchanges during the section meet.

The 4×400 and 4×800 teams both finished in third-place, one spot away from qualifying for state.

The 4×200 team will be joining the girls 4×2 squad, as they took second-place and will be the lone state participants for the boys.

Junior Harrison Grandgenett fell one spot shy of a state bid himself, after finishing third in the 100.
