Sirens will sound on Tornado Drill Day, April 20

Severe weather will soon be here which could mean severe thunderstorms with frequent lightning, heavy rains, hail, flooding, and-or tornadoes.

Tornado Drill Day is Thursday, April 20, and the sirens in the communities will be sounding at 1:45 p.m. and 6:55 p.m. Take this opportunity to plan protective action in the event severe weather should occur in your community.

Also in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness Week, April 17-21, the Isanti County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management along with the National Weather Service will provide a program called Skywarn Training (also referred to as Storm Spotter) which will be held Tuesday, April 25 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Cambridge Intermediate School, Lecture Hall Room 208. Coffee and cookies provided.

This training is beneficial for those who simply wish to become better informed, as well as those who want to be designated storm spotters.

The training will be conducted by a Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service. Isanti County residents will also have a chance to receive a NOAA weather radio.

There is no charge for the training, but call the Isanti County Homeland Security and Emergency Management office at 763-689-8306 or email: [email protected] by April 20 to pre-register.
