Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Isanti County is taking folks back to the 1970s.
The organization will host a 1970s-themed dinner and dance at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Cambridge on Saturday, March 25. It is the second annual dance. Last year’s was 1950s themed.
There will be a 5 p.m. social hour, dinner at 6 p.m. and the dance will begin at 7 p.m. and run until 10 p.m. Tickets are $35 until the day of the event. Seating is limited. Funds raised through the event will go toward Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Isanti County to help local veterans.
The dinner menu is a salad bar, smoked pork and turkey, potatoes, bread and dessert.
KBEK 95.5 FM’s HollyWood will provide music for the dance. There will also be a silent auction.
Jim Rostberg, a member of Beyond the Yellow Ribbon of Isanti County’s executive board, said he hopes to see 200 people attend the event.
“We want to do two things,” Rostberg said. “We want to be able to raise funds to help service members, veterans and their families in Isanti County, and we want people to have fun.”
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon’s efforts help provide a wide variety of services to local veterans.
“We’ve helped pay mortgage payments, rent payments,” Rostberg said. “We’ve helped fix cars.”
Beyond the Yellow Ribbon does not duplicate services offered by any other groups. They do help out people who sometimes miss the criteria to benefit from other services.
As an example, Rostberg cited a person who might be $5 over the income limit to receive subsidized dental care through the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is able to step in and help out in cases like those.
“We’re here to catch those who are falling through the cracks,” Rostberg said.
