Thank you volunteers Food Distribution

Dear Editor:

I would like to thank all our volunteers that so diligently come each month and help us here at Cambridge Surplus Food Distribution to sort and hand out the food we receive for that month. We all know how much work is involved. Some months more than others.

We had a wonderful 2016 year. Each month we handed out approximately 20,000-plus pounds of food to anywhere from 200 to 300 guests. In October, we had our pumpkin handout. In November, each family received a gift certificate in the amount of $10 for meat only to be purchased at Cub Foods in Cambridge. Most of them were used; however, some not. In December, each child received a bag with items in them. These bags were handmade by one of our volunteers and their organization.

For those who are not familiar with our program, we hand out food to residents of Isanti County and surrounding areas within a 30-mile radius.
2017 hopefully will be another good year. In January and February we were fortunate enough to have extra funds to be able to purchase milk and extra items to hand out.

Unfortunately, in February we ran out of food before the 5 p.m. deadline and had to turn away several families. We apologize for this, and hopefully in March we will have more food. We have so many families out there who are very much in need of food, and don’t want them to go without.
