East Central Breastfeeding Coalition
When babies are breastfeed, the whole community benefits. Breastfeeding means fewer health care dollars spent on illness for mom and baby; moms use less sick time at work or school since babies are healthier; babies brains develop to their potential; and breastfeeding honors values, heritage and traditions for many cultures.
The longer a mom and baby breastfeed, the greater the benefits. Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months before introducing solids benefits you and your baby the most. Breastfeeding moms are out and about, so the East Central Breastfeeding Coalition (ECBFC) teamed up with some local sewers to help moms receive breastfeeding covers. Thanks to Bonnie Shorten sewing for Isanti County and the Rush City Piecemakers Quilt Gild for getting things started.
The number of mothers who are breastfeeding continue to climb. Encouragement and gifts such as a breastfeeding cover help moms reach their goal of giving their babies the best food possible and the best start in life.
Can you help? We need material and sewers — we have a simple pattern for you. Help make a difference for moms and babies and your community. The sewing directions are online at www.eastcentralbreastfeeding.com. You may also contact Kanabec, Isanti, Chisago or Pine County WIC offices for information or to drop off your donation of material (at least 1 yard of fabric).
Financial donations are also appreciated and can be sent to ECBFC c/o Isanti County WIC Office, 555 18th Ave. SW Cambridge, MN 55008. ECBC is part of the Minnesota Breastfeeding coalition.
