Play Inc Community Theatre of Cambridge is holding auditions for the first of its adult productions this fall.
In October, Play Inc will present Faith County. Auditions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 23 at Play Inc’s Box Office (144 Second Ave. SE, Cambridge). All auditions are cold reads on the morning of Aug. 23. Nothing needs to be prepared in advance, but please bring with you an accurate schedule of availability.
Faith County, a down home country comedy, will be presented by Play Inc. Oct. 10, 11 and 12 at Cambridge Lutheran Church.
The play written by Mark Landon Smith, “is a little theatrical gem I describe as a cross between Steel Magnolia’s and Larry the Cable Guy,” noted director Angie Gregerson.
The scene is the Faith County Fairgrounds in Mineola, a town located in somewhere in the middle of nowhere in the south.
The plot centers around the events of the county fair, a pair of love interests and local gossip, as well as some poetry reading and piano playing from artists whose talents are, to say the least, questionable.
The characters include your typical small town residents: the sweet and proper reverends wife, the flirty grocery clerk, the flighty beauty parlor owner, the town mechanic, local pig farmer, the local velvet painting art dealer, the eccentric First Lady of Mineola, a young expectant mother and the bossy busybody who enjoys knowing and telling all.
The script is laugh out loud funny and above all captures the essence of what makes small town living so endearing to all of us.
