Swanson sets low mark for Hawk club championship

On the same weekend Rory McIlroy won his second-straight PGA major this season, Matt Swanson was on fire at the Aug. 9-10 Purple Hawk CC club championships. The 2014 Cambridge-Isanti H.S. graduate shot rounds of 68 and 70 to claim the men’s club title with a new record of six-under par for the 36-hole annual tournament.

Swanson, who will golf at the University of South Dakota this fall, held off Jake Warneke (73/71– 144) by six strokes. Brad Ludwigs (77/74– 151) finished in third place, and Dave Pearson (74/79– 153) placed fourth in the men’s gross standings.

Pearson took home the senior men’s championship by one stroke over Don Pyykola. Kelly Brown carded two 84 rounds to beat out Kathy Johnson by six strokes for the Hawk women’s club championship.
