Jade Newman shoots Day 2 80, places 4th in MGA Junior even

jadeJade Newman of Cambridge represented Purple Hawk CC at the 54th Annual MGA Junior Team Championship held Aug. 4-5 at Heritage Links GC in Lakeville. Newman shot 84-80-164 to tie for fourth place in the 64-player field. Newman earned the individual spot for the championship from District 7 by earning 18 points from three qualifying events, while teams from Elk River GC and TPC Twin Cities represented the District.

Heritage Links wasn’t going to play easy with many blind tee shots and greens guarded by marsh, bunkers and water. Newman started off her first round with a birdie on the par 4 no. hole 10. Another birdie on the par 4, 17th helped Jade complete her first nine holes at one-over 37. The course would fight back though, and Newman couldn’t carry her momentum, shooting 47 on the next nine holes for a sixth-place 84. On Friday, Newman helped her score with a birdie on the par 4 no. 3. A solid drive put her in position to eagle the par 4 ninth hole and round the turn with a 39. She continued her momentum and finished the back nine at 41 and a second-round 80.

Jade would like to thank Steve Hanson, Chris and Matt from the Purple Hawk CC, and her Purple Hawk teammates, Caitlin Richmond and Molly Ann Harvey.
