Filing period closes for city councils, school board

The filing period closed Tuesday, Aug. 12, for Cambridge City Council, Braham City Council and the Cambridge-Isanti School Board.

Cambridge City Council

Cambridge Mayor Marlys Palmer filed for re-election. Challenging her for the mayoral seat include Victoria A. Bird, Jim Godfrey, Chris Julicher, Chris Olson and Bob Shogren.

Filing for the two open seats on Cambridge City Council include Loren Goldstein, Shannon Hansel, Tiffany Kafer, Kelli Klossner, Joseph Morin, Ryan Redfield and Jerrod Swenson.

Current Cambridge City Council Members Corey Bustrom and Chris Caulk did not file for re-election.

Braham City Council

Braham Mayor Patricia “Tish” Carlson filed for re-election. Challenging her for the mayoral seat is Ross Benzen.

Current Braham City Council Members Lowell Jacques and Traci Leaf filed for re-election. Also filing for one of the two open council seats is Wayne Seiberlich.

Cambridge-Isanti School Board

Current School Board Members Jenni Caulk, Tim Hitchings, Nate Reibel and Lynn Wedlund have filed for re-election. Also filing for one of the four open seats is Kyle Johnson.

Filing Statements

The Isanti County News allows each candidate running for a local office one free filing statement announcing their candidacy.

The Isanti County News doesn’t solicit this announcement from the candidate; it’s up the candidate to submit their filing statement to the newspaper if they wish to do so. Filing statements from candidates who filed May 20 through June 3 are no longer accepted unless it’s printed as a paid advertisement.

The announcement needs to be 300 words or less, and may include the candidate’s photo. We will run the filing statements in the next available edition after receipt. We reserve the right to edit filing statements. A candidate’s website, Facebook page, Twitter page and other social media sites cannot be included with their filing statements.

Candidates who have filed for Cambridge City Council, Braham City Council and the District 911 School Board, must submit their filing statement to us by Aug. 22, for final publication in our Aug. 27 edition. Filing statements will not be published after the Aug. 27 edition unless as a paid advertisement.
