Bennett R. Olson, 85, died Aug. 3, 2014 in Sugarland, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Olson, and their two sons Byron and Bradley; sister Janice, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bennett was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Florence Olson, bother Lyle Southerland and Sister Ila Linnell.

Bennett (Verp) was born July 23, 1929 and raised in Cambridge, MN. Following high school, he joined the Coast Guard and served in the Korean War. He attended the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in forestry. Following college, Bennett worked for the Forest Service in Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado.

Bennett and his family then moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1974, where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management until his retirement in 1988. Bennett and Bernice traveled full time in their motorhome after leaving Anchorage in 1990, spending the winters parked on the desert near Yuma, Arizona. In 2006, Bennett and Bernice settled down in Stafford, Texas near Byron and Bradley.

Memorial service will be held at Elks Lodge 151 in Houston, Texas. Bennett will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
