Alexander Smith from Cambridge-Isanti High School has been named a National Merit Scholar Finalist in the 2014 NMS competition. From approximately 1.5 million students who entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named semifinalists. In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a semifinalist had to become a finalist by fulfilling several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance. Smith has been offered the National Merit North Dakota State University Scholarship award. Four juniors from Cambridge-Isanti High School have been chosen to compete in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Ryan Fredlund, Jonathan Haseth, Charles Barnhouse and Taylor Weeks. Each of these students is among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants who will be recognized in the fall of their senior year.
Cambridge-Isanti High School Principal Mitch Clausen congratulates Alexander Smith.
