Bluejacket sophomore Jade Newman earned her first trip to State when she tied for 4th place at the two-day Section 7AAA tournament held on Hinckley’s Grand National course.

Following a two-hour lightning delay Saturday morning, Newman finished with an 81. She came back against the wind on the June 2 Day 2 round with an 80. Opening on the back, Newman birdied Nos. 14 and 15, then she eagled Hole No. 1 and birdied No. 8 on her second nine.

“After a while, you kind of got used to the delays,” said Newman after the long, wet day on Saturday. “I liked hole No. 3 since I birdied that hole, then I finished with a good two-putt par on (No.) 18.” Newman will next golf June 10-11 in the Class AAA State meet on Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
