A male suspect fled on foot after stealing two cartons of cigarettes on Tuesday from Casey’s General Store on South Main Street in Cambridge.
According to a press release provided by Cambridge Police Chief Tim Dwyer, at approximately 11:19 a.m., Cambridge officers were dispatched to Casey’s on an armed robbery which just occurred.
Officers were advised by dispatch that a lone male suspect had displayed a knife to the clerk and demanded cigarettes and money. The male fled on foot with two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes. The clerk was not injured and no money was taken.
Law enforcement officers from Cambridge Police Department, Isanti County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota State Patrol canvassed the area on foot, and a K-9 was called in from Princeton Police Department.
Due to the time delay and other factors, the suspect managed to get away or secure a hiding spot. Dispatch did receive a call from a resident on 21st Avenue Southwest who saw a male, matching the description given, on foot in the neighborhood.
The male quickly left the area before officers could arrive. A good description was given by the clerks and images of the suspect were caught on surveillance cameras at Casey’s. This video is being examined and investigators are working possible leads.
