The Cambridge-Isanti boys track & field squad finished in sixth place and the C-I girls were eighth when the Mississippi 8 championships were hosted May 20 at Buffalo. St. Michael-Albertville swept the team titles this season, with the Knight boys ending Buffalo’s long run atop the standings.
The Bluejacket pole vaulters all had strong days for big points for both squads. James Moyer won the boys championship by clearing 13-03. Adding an All-Conference third place was Cody Hemmelgarn at 12-06, and Bryan Nelson was Honorable Mention by taking sixth at 11-06. For the C-I girls, Anna D. Nelson finished as vault runner-up at 10-0. Going M-8 Honorable Mention were Laura Meier (6th, 9-0) and Michaela Pasch (7th, 8-06).
Darren DeBaere (45-09)and James Gallas (45-03) also brought home All-Conference awards in the boys shot put by placing second and third. Adding All-M8 to the stack was Justin Gordon placing fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.4 seconds).
Garnering more M-8 Honorable Mention points for the Bluejacket boys were John Solberg (7th in the long jump at 19-04 and 8th in the 100 at 11.6), Nick Marshall (8th in the 1600, 4:39.1), Thomas Mickelson (8th in the 300 hurdles, 43.3) and the 4×100 relay of Joshua Samsa, Dylan Nowling, Tom Holberg and Solberg (7th, 45.5).
Madeline Krueger tossed the shot put 34-03 for an All-Conference fourth place for the Bluejacket girls. She also was fifth for Honorable Mention in the discus (101-09), while Allison Krueger was an HM fourth in the discus (103-06). Totaling more Honorable Mention awards for the C-I girls were Jordyn Galleazzi (4th in the 100, 13.2) and Bree Erickson (7th in the 1600, 5:32.2). Victoria Koukol added points with a 24-04 discus and a 8-08 shot put toss in the wheelchair division.
