Cambridge-Isanti Baseball was seeded in the No. 8 slot for this week’s opening rounds of the Section 7AAA Tournament. The Bluejacketss (10-9) will host No. 9 Andover (-14) on Monday, May 26 for a 4:30 p.m. play-in game. The winner will enter the eight-team double-elimination format for the tourney which begins May 29, while the loser’s season comes to an end.
The top four seeds in the tourney get byes for the opening round: #1 St. Francis (16-2), #2 Chisago Lakes (14-4), #3 Elk River (13-7) and #4 Duluth East. St. Francis will get the lowest surviving team out of Monday’s games for the Friday quarterfinals (7 p.m.).
SECTION 5A BASEBALL: PACT 10, Braham 0, 5 inn.
PACT Charter, coached by Braham graduate Josh Coleman, led 4-0 after two innings, then the Panthers stacked up five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put away the May 23 opening round win over Braham at beauitful new Castle Field in Anoka. The loss ends Braham’s season with a 2-12 record.
PACT, 6-9 and the No. 4 seed in the Section 5A East, next takes on East No. 1 Hinckley-Finlayson (12-6) in the 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal game at Pierz on May 27. The Jaguars defeated E. Central 15-5 in their Friday night game. Also alive in the 5A East are No. 2 Isle (8-4) and No. 3 Legacy Christian 7-8).
SECTION 5A SOFTBALL: Braham goes 2-2
Braham Softball ended up 2-2 in the Section 5A tournament after the May 22 games were held at Mora. In the second round, No. 2 East seed Rush City defeated the Bombers 10-0 in 6 innings. Braham then defeated Ogilvie 7-3 before being eliminated 11-1 by East No. 1 seed Isle in the consolation brackets. Isle next plays Eden Valley-Watkins in a May 27 survival game at Waite Park. Alive in the winners’ bracket are Rush City (10-4) and Browerville (14-2).
• In Section 7AAA Softball after pile of games on Saturday, May 24 at Andover, the surviving teams in the winners’ brackets are #1 Anoka and #3 Elk River. Alive in the consolation brackets are #2 Forest Lake and #5 St. Francis. The tourney gets back into games May 28 and May 29 at Chisago Lakes (3:30 p.m. start on Wednesday & Thursday).
