Bomber girls clinch GRC championship

The Braham girls wrapped up the 2014 Great River golf championship after the finals were hosted in pleasant spring conditions May 14 on the Purple Hawk CC. The Bombers were runners-up the past two springs.

Senior Caitlin Richmond closed out her conference career with her third GRC medalist honors, tying Mille Lacs’ Heidi Schultz at the top of the season standings. Richmond fired a 97 to lead the Bombers in their 449 round on Wednesday.

Ali Anderson and Courtney Vanderport also brought home All-GRC honors with their season finish after they shot rounds of 100 and 125. Emma Downing (127) and Ariel Ramstad (133) added varsity scores for the Bomber girls.

Braham’s Ed Melcher was voted as the 2014 GRC Girls Coach of the Year this season.

 

• Brandon Brown and Quinn Richmond collected All-Conference honors for the Braham boys.  Brown paced the team with an 89 at the Hawk on Wednesday, with Hunter Richmond coming in next at 90 and Q. Richmond at 92. Terry Gruba (100), Kyle Johnson (102) and Alex Kurvers (104) were grouped together well for Braham who finished behind GRC boys champ Mille Lacs. ML’s Dean Schultz was the boys medalist for 2014.

Next up the Bomber squads will be the two-round Section 4A tournament on Victory Links. The girls will open May 28, with the boys first round May 29. The finals will then be held May 30.
