Star 95 Car Wash in Cambridge is celebrating its renovation with an open house May 11-17.

Customers can enjoy refreshments, prizes, specials and register to win one year of free car washes.

The extensive remodel included making the lobby more inviting and comfortable, new equipment and a new system for cars to enter, among other things.

Everything that changed was to give a better customer experience, said Manager Dale Smith.

On top of that, the company won a competition to change some of their back room equipment that is outdated.

There are other changes to make things convenient for customers as well. Star 95 has added a new $6 tunnel “Express Wash.”

The basic wash is in hopes to retain a higher customer base.

“We are still a full-service car wash,” said Steve Smith, one of the owners. “But our change was the people that just want a quick bing-bang-boom. Our goal is to streamline to get people through.”

He added that people normally come to Star 95 for a quality wash, but they will go to gas stations in between.

He said he hopes the new service is helpful for customers, so they can come to the same place for quality washes.

The menu has also changed for simplicity. Instead of five options, customers can choose from three options.

Customers can join the unlimited wash club where there is an unlimited exterior wash available for $19.95. Hand wax options are also available.

A new feature that customers are raving about is a new chemical tire applicator, which cleans the tires and rims.

The company was one of the first car washes in the area to reclaim their water, so they reuse the water they use in the wash.

Star 95 also makes it a point to give back to the community by giving away free car washes to organizations.

“We try to be community-oriented,” Steve Smith said. “There’s at least three times a week we’re giving away free washes, and it doesn’t matter what it is. If it’s the Elk Foundation, the cancer society, if they have a fundraiser, we’ll give it to them.”

They also give free basic washes to active military. Monday is senior special day and Thursday is lady’s day.

“We are a destination car wash, where people will come from North Branch, East Bethel and Mora to get a good car wash,” Smith said.
