The Isanti County Agricultural Society is seeking the community’s help for a barn conversion at the Isanti County Fairgrounds in Cambridge. The plan also involves a covered arena for the livestock exhibitors.
The Ag Society will hold an auction at noon on Sunday, May 4, at the Fairgrounds. It is seeking any type of donation of value, large or small. The items will be auctioned off at the May 4 auction.
The auction will start a building fund so it can enhance and showcase its exhibitors at the fair, both open classes and youth.
If interested in making a financial donation to the building fund, checks can be made out and mailed to Isanti County Ag Society, P.O. Box 313, Cambridge, MN 55008.
The May 4 auction is being held in order to raise funds to convert a current horse barn into a cattle barn, and to attach a covered show arena. The current facilities have horse barns on either side of the cattle barn which can cause problems.
The current outdoor space used as a show arena provides no protection from the elements. For the past three years, the beef and dairy cattle shows have been held inside the aisle of the current cattle barn due to heavy winds and rains. This not only prohibits the exhibitors from showcasing their animals to the best of their ability, but also causes safety risks to the showmen as well as to the public.
The ultimate goal is to convert and add on to the current horse barn on the northwest end of the Fairgrounds to make it into a cattle facility. The current plans for this barn will not only have room for more cattle to be exhibited and future growth, but will include a covered show arena.
What is currently the cattle barn will be converted to a horse barn with prefabricated stalls which have already been purchased. Both horse and cattle exhibitors, as well as spectators, view this as a win-win situation for the Isanti County Fair.
