Friendly reminder regarding Cambridge bridge detour

Dear Editor:

Here’s a friendly reminder that the Highway 95 bridge over the Rum River will be closing shortly. People should start planning detours now. They should find a map of Cambridge and locate detour routes.

Also, remember there is more than one railroad crossing than the one at Highway 95 and Buchanan. If you’re sitting in your vehicle idling, you’re burning up gas at more than $3.30 per gallon of gasoline. If you’re more than a few blocks back from that crossing, you’re going to be sitting for more than 3 minutes, as some of the trains that go through are more than 120 cars long. Also, if you’re stopped, don’t block the intersection so that pedestrians wanting to cross the road have to exit the crosswalk, and cannot walk across the road properly.
