C-I Boys Track stretches legs for indoor win at Mankato

After both Cambridge-Isanti track & field squads got in an indoor workout March 20 at Foley, the Bluejacket boys totaled 199 points to take first place at United South Central’s indoor meet held in Mankato on Saturday. Along with USC, Hutchinson and Comfrey-Springfield teams also competed at the gathering.

C-I senior Justin Gordon flew to first places in the 55-meter high and intermediate hurdle races. Junior John Solberg was second in both the 55 and 200 dashes, and Gabe Smisson added a second place in the 400 for C-I.

More Bluejacket running highlights from Mankato were: Nick Marshall- 2nd in the 800; Henry Boettcher 3rd in the 1600; Paden Hallman- 2nd in the 3200; Cole Crocker- 2nd in the 55 intermediate. hurdles and 3rd in the 55 high hurdles.

C-I pole vaulters Cody Hemmelgarn, James Moyer, Boston Knighton-Johnson and Chase Griffin swept the top four spots in that event, with Hemmelgarn clearing 12-0. Chase Hicks won the long jump and was 3rd in the high jump, and Tom Mickelson took 1st in the high jump. Additional field points came from Darren Debaere- 3rd in the shot put, Calvin Thompson- 3rd in the long jump, and Moyer- 4th in the high jump.

The Bluejackets will next compete at the March 29 U of M Time Trials, then they travel to Monticello April 1 for the Mississippi 8 Indoor meet (4 p.m.).

Braham Track & Field teams will get a conference preview of their competition at the March 29 GRC Indoors meet at the Foley Fieldhouse (4 p.m.).
