Cambridge-Isanti grad Clayton Jennissen is one of six wrestlers from St. Cloud State University to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division II wrestling championships in Cleveland, Ohio this weekend. Jennissen, a redshirt freshman, earned his ticket to Ohio thanks to a 5th-place finish in the 174 lb. bracket at the 2014 NCAA Division II Super Region 3 championships in Edmond, Okla. Feb. 28-March 1. Jennissen was 3-2 in the regional. He owns a 24-13 record this season for the Huskies, which includes four falls. The Huskies went 19-1 overall record and captured 1st place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with an 8-0 record.
• Cambridge-Isanti grad Tony Nelson battled back from a hand injury to win his third-straight 285 lb. (Heavyweight) title at the Big 10 Wrestling Championships in Madison, Wis. last weekend. Nelson was able to avenge an earlier loss to Indiana’s Adam Chalfant in the championship bout by posting 2-1 win. Nelson will now turn his eyes to the NCAA Championships hosted in Oklahoma City, Okla. March 20-22 where he is the two-time defending national champ at 285.
