Braham Boys win playoff opener

PLAYOFF UPDATES: Stepping into play in their new  basketball section, the North No. 3 seed Braham boys defeated No. 6 Maple Lake 74-63 in the Feb. 27 Section 5AA opener at home. Zach Dahlman and John Larson paved the way with 27and 26 points for Braham, and Chris Olson scored 13.

The Bombers next will face North No. 2 seed Annandale in the 8 p.m. quarterfinal game, Saturday, March 1 at St. Michael-Albertville H.S. The Cardinals dispatched No. 7 Foley 82-38 in their playoff opener. The 6 p.m. quarters at STMA will be No. 1 North St. Cloud Cathedral vs. No. 4 Mora. The Crusaders hammered No. 8 Spectrum 86-34 and Mora tipped Milaca 59-56 Thursday evening.

C-I Boys fall to Anoka in 7AAAA

Cambridge-Isanti lost outside gunner Nate Cox to an ankle injury in the first half, and visiting Anoka went on to pin a 69-66 loss on the Bluejackets in the Feb. 27 Section 7AAAA boys basketball quarterfinals at CIHS. Kyle McDonald paced the No. 3 seed Jackets with 24 points.

No. 6 seed Anoka (4-22) will take on No. 2 Andover (13-13) in the 8 p.m. semifinals at North Branch H.S. March 4. Top-seed St. Francis (22-5) and No. 4 Blaine (10-16) play in the 6 p.m. semis at North Branch that night.

Braham Girls seeded No. 2 for playoffs

Braham girls basketball enters its new Section 5AA as the North No. 2 seed when the playoffs begin Thursday, March 6. The Bombers, who defeated Onamia 69-31 Feb. 27 to raise their record to 20-4, will take on No. 7 Maple Lake (5-16) at home at 7 p.m.

Their next playoff game would be the 5AA quarterfinals against either North No. 3 Foley (16-9) or No. 6 Spectrum (17-6).
