Operation Round Up assists local organizations

More than $18,000 was recently awarded to local organizations from the East Central Energy (ECE) Operation Round Up Trust® (ORU) when the volunteer trust board held its first meeting of 2014.

ECE established the Trust in 1997 as a convenient, low-cost way for members to donate to local charitable organizations. Members who participate agree to have their monthly electric bill rounded up to the next dollar. The average annual contribution for members who participate is $6; the maximum annual donation through the round-up process is $11.88.

ECE members who would like to join their fellow members in supporting the Operation Round Up program can sign up by calling 1-800-254-7944. Community organizations which serve ECE members can contact Julie Johnson, 763-689-8046, if they are interested in applying to the ORU Trust.

At its recent meeting, the ORU Trust Board approved the following grants for organizations in Isanti County:

• Friends of the Braham Library: $3,000 to help with the costs of starting a library in the new Braham Community Center.

• The Isanti County Commission on Aging: $4,423 to purchase a new kitchen range for the agency’s re-location to the Cambridge City Center Mall.
