C-I Wrestlers seeded No. 2 for 7AAAs

The Bluejacket wrestlers will be gunning for their first trip to State since 2009 when the Section 7AAA Team tourney is hosted at St. Francis Friday, Feb. 14. Cambridge-Isanti (18-3) received the No. 2 seed and will open against No. 7 Forest Lake (8-9) at 3 p.m.

No. 3 Anoka (13-1) could offer a stiff challenge in the semifinals in the early evening. Defending champion St. Michael-Albertville (20-3) is the top seed and likely the favorite to overcome when the finals begin at 8 p.m.

The Bluejackets closed the regular season with a 47-21 win over Blaine Feb. 7. Earning falls against the Bengals were Casey Schlickenmayer, Carlo Holmberg, Brady Kuntz, James Fredriksen, Cody Skog, Jake Pasch and Spencer Simon.

Tiger Wrestlers 2nd at GRC Finals

Tyler Sitz at 126 and Jacob Lynch at 195 won their weights when Rush City-Braham finished 2nd to Aitkin at the Feb. 7 Great River wrestling finals tourney. Placing 3rd for the Tigers were Dylan Mielke (132), Bryce Bodell (145), Dominic Montgomery (160), Luke Rands (170) and Chase Grant (182).

• RC-B (5-5) opened the Section 7AA team tourney as a No. 4 North seed, defeating  No. 5 Virginia 50-21 Feb. 11 at Virginia. The Tigers followed with a 67-9 loss to top-seed Grand Rapids in the nightcap.

The Feb. 14 semifinals at Cloquet will be Grand Rapids vs. South No. 3 Mora (36-31 over Chisago Lakes), and South No. 1 Milaca (40-23 over Princeton) vs. North No. 3 Hibbing (69-12 over Cloquet).
