Braham Boys clinch GRC title

Braham clinched its 11th straight Great River boys basketball title with a 79-68 home win over Aitkin Feb. 11, extending the team’s conference win streak to 65 games. John Larson scored 24 points and also led with 6 assists for the Bombers against the Gobblers. Zach Dahlman had 16 points and 4 rebounds, with Chris Olson (13) and Ryan Larson (10) also scoring in double-digits.

The Bomber boys set up the  championship by downing host Pine City 76-47 Feb. 6. Chris Olson hit 5-of-6 three-pointers to lead with 32 points, and Zach Dahlman led inside with 18 points and 8 rebounds. John Larson finished with 15 points, and Ryan Larson fed 6 assists at PC.

On Feb. 8 at the Target Center, Plainview-Elgin-Millville led 33-20 at the half and kept rolling past Braham 70-44. J. Larson scored 11, with 8 points each from Dahlman, Olson and Connor Tschumper.

CIMPC girls fall in 7AA

Top-seed Andover raced out to a 7-0 lead to defeat Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City 9-1 in the Section 7AA girls hockey quarterfinals Feb. 6. Maria Carpenter scored the Jackets’ lone goal in the third.

Andover (15-9-3) will face No. 2 Elk River (14-8-5) in the section championship Feb. 13 in Duluth.

Win for Jacket Boys Hockey

Collin Anderson scored twice and Levi Miller added a solo goal when Cambridge-Isanti boys hockey defeated host Mora  3-2 Feb. 11.

On Feb. 6, C-I fell to St. Francis 6-3. Miller scored two goals on the Saints. The Bluejackets and Saints will likely square off again in the Feb. 15 Section 7AA play-in game, with the winner to travel to the No. 1 seed on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Braham Girls’ GRC streak snapped

Braham girls basketball had its 75-game Great River win streak snapped when host Aitkin got past the Bombers 59-58 Feb. 11. Braham had defeated the Gobblers 58-52 back on Jan. 20.

The Bombers are still in command of the GRC, helped by defeating Pine City 77-23 on Feb. 6. They will get another good test at St. Cloud Tech in the Feb. 13 make-up game.
