Eight Cambridge-Isanti wrestlers earned All-Conference honors with top-three placings when the first Mississippi 8 Individuals tournament was held Jan. 31 in Monticello.
Four Bluejackets won their weight classes in the tourney. Brady Kuntz at 113 had two falls before taking a 7-2 decision over Chisago’s Pierce in the finals. At 152, David Kent won all three matches by fall, including sticking Barnes of Monticello in the championship.
Cody Skog followed with a title at 160 by majoring Big Lake’s Brown 9-0. He reached the 200-win career mark when he also won by fall and a major in the earlier rounds. At 220, Kyle Chromy began with two pins before taking a 4-2 overtime match over Treptau of Buffalo in the championship. Chromy reached the 75-win mark for C-I in the tourney.
Taking runner-up in the M-8s were Travis Swanson at 126 and Tanner Torgerson at 145 after they both won their first two matches. Placing 3rd for C-I were Carlo Holmberg and 106 and Jake Pasch at 170 who finished with decisions in their final matches. Coming in 4th were Monty Fredriksen (120), Reegan Lane (138) and Dakota Johnson (195).
• At a power-packed triangular in Owatonna Jan. 30, the Bluejackets paid back an earlier loss to Class AA No. 1 ranked Simley by defeating the Spartans 34-20. Kent’s tech fall at 160 and Skog’s major at 170 pushed C-I ahead 19-16. Johnson won 3-1 in OT at 195, then Chromy and Spencer Simon wrapped up the match with falls in the upper weights. Earlier decisions were won by M. Fredriksen, Swanson and Lane.
The Bluejackets beat the host AAA 6th-ranked Huskies 36-20 in the other match. Posting pins for C-I were Swanson, Pasch, Johnson and Chromy. Taking decisions were Kuntz, Lane, Torgerson and Caleb Brennan at 152.
