Bluejacket hoops teams win two-of-three

Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball recorded two wins in three nights, beginning with a 74-63 victory over Coon Rapids Feb. 1. The win was the 400th for Bluejacket head coach Mike McDonald.

Kyle McDonald scored 24 points, and Nate Cox hit 5-of-9 three-pointers to finish with 21 points. Matt Swanson finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Hunter Vavra added 9 points against the Cardinals.

On Feb. 3, K. McDonald knocked down six ‘3s’ amid his 21 points when the host Bluejackets defeated Monticello 63-43. Swanson doubled up with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Cox finished with a solid 16-point, 8-rebound, 5-assist line.

Back on Jan. 31, host Big Lake began with a 12-point lead at the half and held for a 78-70 win over C-I. Cox poured in 31 points with six more three-pointers. Swanson and Vavra finished with 11 points each, and McDonald scored eight on the Hornets.

C-I girls win two

Lily Porta scored 20 points, and both Justine Larson and Lauryn Swanson delivered 10 points when the Cambridge-Isanti girls basketball squad defeated Big Lake 72-45 Jan. 31. Maria Vavra and Brooke Olson led on the boards with 10 and 9 rebounds.

On Saturday afternoon, C-I kept rolling with a 68-49 win over Duluth Denfeld sparked by 20 points from Porta, 14 by Vavra and 11 from Swanson. Larson contributed 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Vavra finished with 5 assists.

The Jackets took a 72-45 loss at the hands of strong Monticello Feb. 3. Larson scored 20 and Vavra 13 against the Magic.

Braham Boys beat H-F Jaguars

The Braham boys took a big step toward another Great River title by defeating visiting Hinckley-Finlayson 78-59 Jan. 30. John Larson led the way with 23 points. Zach Dahlman and Chris Olson followed with 15 points, and Dahlman doubled-up with 12 rebounds.

Braham added a 96-30 win over Ogilvie Feb. 3 with five players in double-figures: Olson (23), Dahlman (21), Larson (18), Connor Tschumper (13) and Ryan Larson (10).

Two wins for Bomber Girls

Braham girls basketball made it 10 straight wins in the Great River by defeating Hinckley-Finlayson 83-31 Jan. 31 and Ogilvie 81-45 Feb. 3.

Kayla Nickles posted the double with 27 points and 11 rebounds against the Lions on Monday night. Jaclyn Hollenkamp scored 13 points to go with 14 boards, with Lizzie Altendorf adding 12 points, Jenna Winter 10 and Janessa Malone 8.
