Buffalo notches wins over C-I hoops squads

Buffalo knocked down a field goal and two free throws late to slip past Cambridge-Isanti girls basketball 54-52 Jan. 24. Lily Porta scored 19, Maria Vavra 12 and Justine Larson 9 for the visiting Bluejackets. Leading on the boards were Brooke Olson (7), Larson (6) and Sydney Larkin (5).

The Bluejackets also lost a tight 36-34 game to St. Michael-Albertville Jan. 21. Vavra led with 10 points, and the Jackets received 8 points each from Larson and Porta.

Mississippi 8 Girls Basketball: East: Chisago Lakes 3-2, 11-3; Cambridge-Isanti 3-2, 7-7; North Branch 1-3, 9-5; Princeton 1-4, 5-8; St. Francis 0-5, 3-10.  West: St. Michael-Alb. 6-0, 12-3; Monticello 5-1, 13-4; Rogers 4-2, 11-6; Buffalo 3-2, 9-6; Big Lake 0-5, 3-11.

• The Bluejacket boys fell to a balanced Buffalo attack 65-53 Jan. 23. Kyle McDonald scored 20 and Nate Cox 16 for C-I, with the two combining for 7 three-pointers. Hunter Vavra added 7 points for C-I.

On Jan. 21, St. Michael-Albertville got past the Jackets 55-54. McDonald (16), Matt Swanson (16), and Cox (13) were top scorers on the team, and Swanson doubled-up with 12 rebounds.
