Wildcats top Jacket swimmers

Host Chisago Lakes defeated Cambridge-Isanti 101-83 in their Mississippi 8 meet Jan. 9. The Wildcats swept the top spots in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 100 Breaststroke to pull away from the Bluejackets.

In the 50 Free, John Solberg gave C-I its first win with a 23.3 time. Parker Brown and Cody Hemmelgarn then finished 1st and 2nd in Diving with 240.5 and 219.4 points to pull the Jackets to within 43-35.

Alex Heinen (5:43.7) and Peter Edblad (5:44.7) followed with 1st and 2nd swims in the 500 which kept C-I  within 10 points of the Wildcats before they made their move. Adding Bluejacket 2nd places on the evening were Josh Minnihan in the 200 IM (2:17.5) and 100 Butterfly (1:01.7), Solberg in the 100 Free (53.2), Collin Perra in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.8) and the 200 Medley Relay of Perra, Jared Zacharias, Minnihan and Solberg (1:55.2).

• On Saturday, the Bluejackets traveled north to place 4th in the eight-team Duluth East Invite won by section-partner Forest Lake. Brown (384.4) and Hemmelgarn (344.8)  dueled for the top two diving spots at the invite.

Swimmers placing in the top-10 were: Solberg (5th in the 50 Free, 7th in 100 Free); Minnihan (7th in 200 IM, 7th in 100 Butterfly); Heinen (7th in 500 Free); Edblad (10th in 500 Free); Perra (9th in 100 Backstroke). The top C-I relay was the 200 Medley made up again of Perra, Zacharias, Minnihan and Solberg.

• The Bluejackets continue the Mississippi 8 schedule with a road meet at Princeton Jan. 16.
