C-I Boys split at Moorhead hoops tourney

Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball split its two games at the Dec. 27-28 Moorhead Holiday Tournament to take 3rd place. On Friday, the host Spuds won 83-75, then the Bluejackets downed Hawley 76-61 in Saturday’s 3rd-place game.

Against Moorhead, Matt Swanson paced the Jackets with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Nate Cox scored 16 and Kyle McDonald 15, with Hunter Vavra adding 7 points.

Against Hawley, Cox hit 8-of-13 three-pointers for a season-high 28 points. Swanson led on the boards with 16 rebounds to go with 15 points. McDonald finished with 10 points and 5 assists, and Jake Johnson added 9 points.

Jacket Girls 1-2 at  Roseville Tourney

Cambridge-Isanti girls hoops began the Roseville Holiday Tournament with a 49-30 win over St. Anthony Village Dec. 27. Lily Porta scored 18 points to lead the Bluejackets, and Justine Larson finished with 12 rebounds and 6 points. Aiding in the win were Marsha Porta (7 points) and Maria Vavra (6 points).

On Saturday, it was the host Raiders prevailing 52-38 over C-I after taking a 13-point lead at the half. Leading scorers for the Bluejackets were L. Porta (9), M. Porta (8), Larson (7) and Shelby Swanson (5).

The Bluejackets took on Chanhassen in the Dec. 30 3rd-place game at the Roseville tourney, with the Storm winning 69-58. L. Porta scored 24, followed by Vavra (13) and Lauryn Swanson (5).
