Braham boys basketball picked up valuable experience while going 2-1 to place 3rd at last weekend’s St. Cloud Cathedral “Crusader Christmas Classic” tourney.
“This tournament always makes us a better team with its level of competition. You get three games over three days, so it forces the boys to think on their feet as they have to adjust to situations quickly,” analyzed Bomber coach Bob Vaughan.
His boys opened play Dec. 26 against taller Mandan, ND who jumped out to an early lead. John Larson’s bucket tied the game at 17-17 with just under seven minutes to play in the half, then the Bombers burst on a 21-8 finish to lead 38-25 at the break. Three-pointers by Alec Olson, Ryan Larson, J. Larson and C. Olson were instrumental in that run, along with the inside play of Zach Dahlman who led the Bombers with 15 points and 11 rebounds against the Braves.
J. Larson finished with 14 points and 8 assists, with both A. Olson and C. Olson scoring 9, R. Larson 8 and Connor Tschumper 6.
• In the Dec. 27 semifinals, the host Crusaders– ranked 9th in Class AA and a Section 5AA partner of Braham– were fired up for their 89-75 win over the Bombers.
