Jacket Wrestlers take down two more foes

Cambridge-Isanti, ranked 6th in Class AAA, opened the Mississippi 8 schedule with a 60-6  road win at Princeton Dec. 12.

The Tigers forfeited at four of the first five weights for an early 28-0 hole which included a 16-5 Carlo Holmberg major at 113.

The Bluejackets kept rolling with a 9-0 major from Reegan Lane at 145 and a 4-1 Brandon Lyzhoft decision at 152. David Kent posted a 9-1 win at 160, getting the major points by virtue of a takedown with two seconds left in the match.

That set the stage for a premier match at 170 between the Bluejackets’ AAA 3rd-ranked Cody Skog and the Tigers’ Class AA 4th-ranked Billy McClay. Skog turned a reverse into a five-point move to start the second period, then he added a four-point throw in the third to score an 11-2 major– Skog’s 175th career victory.

After the Tigers took an 8-4 decision at 182, C-I’s 6th-ranked Dakota Johnson worked for an 11-2 major at 195, and 6th-ranked teammate Kyle Chromy slammed a second-period pin at 220. Mike Seafolk then bumped up to 285 and finished the night with an 8-2 win.

• In the Dec. 13 home opener, the Bluejackets kept wrestling well to defeat section-partner Elk River 45-19, improving their season record to 6-1. Racking up falls for C-I were Brady Kuntz (113), Lane (145), Johnson (195) and Seafolk (285). Fifth-ranked Travis Swanson won a 12-2 major at 126, and Kent’s 24-9 tech fall pushed the Jackets ahead for good at 21-19. Jake Pasch (11-0 at 182) and Chromy (18-7 at 220) also took their matches by major decisions.

• The Bluejackets head to the super-competitive Minnesota Christmas Tourney in Rochester this weekend. The team will be looking to match or better last year’s 5th-place finish among the elite squads.
