C-I boys hoops beat Panthers, Thunder

Cambridge-Isanti boys basketball raised its record to 5-1 on the season with victories in two more non-conference games.

The Bluejackets defeated host Spring Lake Park 70-64. Devin Malik’s layup with 1:44 remaining gave C-I the lead for good, and Malik finished with a team-high 16 points. Kyle McDonald hit four three-pointers amid his 15 points; he also finished with 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Nate Cox (12), Hunter Vavra (11) and Matt Swanson (10) also lent strong scoring against the Panthers. Swanson and Jake Johnson added 8 and 6 rebounds for C-I.

• At home Dec. 17, the Bluejackets jumped to a 45-26 halftime lead before defeating Zimmerman 77-64. Filling up the basket were Swanson (18 points), McDonald (17), Cox (16), Garrett Hiljus (11) and Malik (9).

Forest Lake over C-I Girls

In a game pitting Section 7AAAA girls hoops partners, Forest Lake worked past Cambridge-Isanti 53-42. Justine Larson and Lily Porta scored 15 points each to lead the Bluejackets, with Larson pulling down 7 rebounds. Maria Vavra added 5 points, and Shelby Swanson had 5 boards.

Two wins for CCS Girls

The Cambridge Christian girls defeated MSAD 52-50 Dec. 12, getting 19 points from Kellie Pedersen, 12 from Kristin Bergman and 9 from Emily Fridberg. The next night, the Warriors topped South Metro 52-24 when Pedersen scored 18 and Bergman 15.
