Isanti City Council approved no increase to its final 2013 tax levy collectible in 2014 during its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Isanti Mayor George Wimmer explained there will be a 0 percent increase for the 2014 levy. Wimmer noted the 2014 levy is the same as the 2013 levy.
The levy was approved at $1,792,884. The general fund makes up $1.46 million of the levy, with other improvement bonds and crossover refunding as the other components of the levy.
Wimmer mentioned the city had a $508,000 debt payment in 2010, and in 2014 it will be $326,000,
“Our goal is to keep our debt payment under $400,000,” Wimmer said. “This lower debt payment makes a significant difference in our budget. We are trying to keep our debt under control while continuing to maintain our same level of city services without raising taxes.”
The Council also adopted its 2014 budget at $3,045,125.
The largest component of the budget is the Police Department, $1.05 million. Other larger budgets include Finance-Administration, $375,081; Debt Service, $326,787; Parks, Recreation & Culture, $265,060; Streets, $260,365; and Fire District payment, $159,248.
