Veona Vee Carter, 83, of Huron, S.D., died Sunday, November 17, 2013, at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Living Hope Alliance Church with the Rev. Richard Birr officiating. Burial will be in the Ideal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1- 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20 at the Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron, S.D.
Veona Mae Carlson was born Feb. 7, 1930, in Isanti County, Minnesota, to Charles J. and Myrtle M. (Dahl) Carlson. She attended rural school in Isanti and graduated high school at Cambridge, Minn. in June 1947.
Vee worked for her Uncle Nils at his photo studio in Cambridge, Minn. after high school for about two years where she developed a passion for photography. She later moved to Minneapolis. On June 7, 1952, she married Clayton Carter of Huron, S.D. at North Isanti Baptist Church in Cambridge where she was a member. The couple moved to Huron in 1952. Vee gained employment at Northwestern Public Service and later at Flolos Studio.
Clayton and Vee had one daughter, Dianne and one son, Bruce.
Vee enjoyed skating, snowmobiling along the river, and traveling. She had particularly enjoyed a trip to Europe where she and her husband visited Vees relatives in Sweden.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Clayton of Huron; her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Diane Carter of Huron; one granddaughter, Chelsea Rogers of Denton, Texas; two grandsons, Kyle (Shadra) Carter of Wolsey and Michael Carter of Fargo, N.D.; three great-grandsons, Kaydin, Jacksen and Benton Carter; her brother, Roger (Gloria) Carlson of Cambridge, Minn.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Dianne Rogers; two brothers, Gordon Carlson and Norman Carlson; one sister, Lucille Carlson; and two brothers-in-law.
