Grand Rapids tips past Bluejackets in 7AAA finals

In a hard-fought battle by both teams, Grand Rapids slipped past Cambridge-Isanti in five games in the Nov. 2 Section 7AAA championship: 25-20, 27-29, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11. The Bluejackets were within 12-11 in Game 5 after a Claire Sheehan block, but the Thunderhawks knocked down the next three points needed to reach State for the first time since 1996.

Grand Rapids (29-2) will take on No. 3 seed Delano (28-3) in the Class AAA State quarterfinals at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Xcel Center. The tournament continues Nov. 8-9 at the Xcel.

The Bluejackets closed the best season in the program’s history with a 22-8 record.
