Cambridge-Isanti sophomore Bree Erickson ran to a personal-best 15:15.3 to claim a State berth out of the Section 7AA finals held Oct. 24 at Cloquet.
“Bree ran a great race, to grab a State-qualifying berth. She is only the second Bluejacket female in the last 20 years to qualify,” said C-I Coach Josh Lowman. “Bree’s performance, coupled with great races from the rest of the Jacket gals– helped us to move up to 13th from last year’s 15th place, drop over 60 points off last year’s score, and in the process also beat a fellow conference team, St. Francis, who had beaten us just a week ago on their home course.”
Seniors Ashley Winselman (17:20) and Shelby Swanson (18:15) wrapped up their Jacket CC careers at sections. Also running for the girls varsity were Maddie Oullette (17:26), Brynna Guimont (18:10), Brittany White (18:23) and Isabelle Schultz (18:25).
The Bluejacket boys had four runners post sub-18:00 minute times at sections: Henry Boettcher (17:36), Nick Marshall (17:48), Paul Elmstrand (17:48) and Paden Hallman (17:59). Gaining experience for next season were Nate Wallman (18:11), Tyler Magnuson (19:02) and Ray Abraham (19:08).
“This team’s potential is great! We return everyone for next season off this section team, and we have other young guys waiting for a shot to make the team,” said Coach Lowman.
