Braham returns to its second Section 7A football championship game in three seasons after holding down Blackduck 34-6 in the Oct. 26 semifinals on the home field.
The finals will be played at Duluth Public Stadium at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 31 against No. 2 seed Barnum who the top-seed Bombers defeated 28-6 in Week 6 this season.
“Barnum brings a stout running attack and a polished, much-improved passing attack to the field,” said Bomber Coach Shawn Kuhnke. The winner of the Halloween bash advances to the Nov. 8 Class A quarterfinals (5 p.m.) at St. Cloud State University against the 5A champ– either Dawson-Boyd or Wabasso.
On Saturday, the Bombers put together a very effective offensive performance with just one turnover (late in the fourth quarter) against the Drakes and a balanced run/pass ratio.
“Defensively, we limited their 2012 conference MVP running back to 12 carries for 19 yards. We also had a big stop in the first quarter on a 4th-and-inches near midfield,” described Coach Kuhnke.
Braham owned a 20-0 lead in that first quarter after Elijah Overton began with touchdown runs of 1 and 11 yards. John Larson tacked on a 9-yard TD run before the quarter ended.
The Drakes came back with a 65-yard pass play for a score, but the Bombers made it 28-6 at the break when Quinn Richmond hauled in a 10-yard TD pass from Larson. Larson scored the game’s final points on a 26-yard run midway through the third quarter.
