Bomber Football, Volleyball get No. 1 seeds for playoffs

Braham Football locked in a No. 1 seed for the Section 7A playoffs after defeating Hinckley-Finlayson 40-7 in the Oct. 16 regular-season finale. The Bombers (8-0) will host No. 8 seed Cook County (0-8) at 6 P.M. Oct. 22 in the quarterfinals.  A victory would have Braham hosting the Saturday, Oct. 26 semifinal game (2 p.m.) against either No. 4 East Central or No. 5 Blackduck.

The Section 7A championship game will be Oct. 31 on the Duluth Public School stadium turf at 4:45 p.m.

Braham Volleyball seeded No. 1 in 5A pod

Braham (20-5) earned a top seed in its pod of the Section 5A Volleyball tournament. On Friday, Oct. 25 (7 p.m.) the Bombers will host either No. 4 Hinckley-Finlayson or No. 5 East Central. A victory that night would have Braham traveling to Crosby for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Defending section champ Nevis (18-9) is in Braham’s half of the section brackets.

Cambridge-Isanti Football seeded No. 5 for Section 7AAAAA tourney

Cambridge-Isanti, fresh off a 12-7 win over Princeton in the Oct. 16 regular-season finale, is seeded 5th for the Section 7AAAAA football playoffs. The Oct. 22 quarterfinals will send the Bluejackets (5-3) to No. 4 St. Francis (4-4) for a 7 p.m. matchup. The winner will next travel to No. 1 seed Brainerd (8-0) for a 2 p.m. semifinal game on Saturday, Oct. 26. Chisago Lakes (7-1) is the No. 2 seed in the section also receives a first-round bye as do the Warriors.

Section cross country meets this week

Playoffs will also be held in cross country around the state this week. The Cambridge-Isanti runners will compete in the Section 7AA finals at the Cloquet Country Club at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24. Braham CC will compete at the Section 5A finals held Oct. 24 (4 p.m.) at Milaca.
