Petition circulating to oppose state’s plan regarding sex offenders

Dear Editor:

A petition is being circulated around town to express our dissatisfaction to Governor Mark Dayton over the Department of Human Services (DHS) plan for our community. DHS plans to transfer some of its clients in the Minnesota Sex Offender Program from St. Peter and Moose Lake to their facility here in Cambridge, on the grounds of the old state hospital.

Members of our group, Cambridge Citizens Concerned for Safety, will have the petition available at the Farmers Market in the parking lot of the Cambridge Mall, in front of City Center Market and Scout and Morgan Books. The Farmers Market is open on Wednesdays from 1-5 p.m. as well as Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, we will have the petition available on Friday, Oct. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as well as 3-6 p.m. inside the Cambridge Mall, in the hallway across from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce office.

If we are going to stop this plan, we need all the help we can get. If anyone is available to staff the petition at the Farmers Market, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected], or by sending a message on our Facebook page. This page can also be accessed to get the latest information available about the plan and our efforts to stop it.
