Bluejacket Volleyball seeded No.1 for 7AAA playoffs

Cambridge-Isanti, with its 20-7 record on the season, earned the No. 1 seed for the 2013 Section 7AAA volleyball playoffs. The Bluejackets will host the Oct. 25 quarterfinal match between either No. 8 St. Francis or No. 9 Princeton. With a win that night, the Bluejackets would get another home match for the Oct. 30 semifinals. The next three top seeds in the section are Grand Rapids, North Branch and Forest Lake.

Bluejackets play well at STMA Invitational

Coach Vicki Courts had her Cambridge-Isanti volleyball squad get in a great post-season preparation weekend of play when the Bluejackets went 3-2 at the large St. Michael-Albertville Invitational. With that record, the Jackets finished 18th out of the 31 teams in attendance.The C-I girls began play Friday afternoon with a 25-17, 25-13 win over Litchfield. Sydney Larkin set for 26 assists, Elle Larkin had 9 digs, and Claire Sheehan and Taylor Glotzbach led with 13 and 5 kills.

That evening, Owatonna hit past the Jackets 25-20, 25-18. Sheehan had 8 kills and 12 digs, with Korbyn Felde adding 9 digs against the Huskies.

Saturday began with a 25-18, 25-14  win over 2012 Class A State entrant Nevis. Sheehan (10 kills) and Felde (4 kills) led the hitting attack, with Mackenzie Torgerson adding 3 kills. E. Larkin finished with 9 digs in the back row.

The Bluejackets kept rolling with a 25-17, 26-24  victory over Centennial as Sheehan ripped 15 more kills and led with 16 digs. S. Larkin passed for 16 assists, and Greta Holt helped with 4 kills.

The tourney experience ended for C-I with a 25-23, 19-25, 15-8 loss to Wayzata. Sheehan and Felde racked up 8 and 6 kills against the Trojans, and S. Larkin added 12 more assists.

• On Oct. 15, the Bluejackets closed the Mississippi 8 season in 3rd place with another tight conference match, defeating visiting Rogers 25-12, 23-25, 25-10, 22-25, 15-13. Buffalo swept St. Michael-Albertville 3-0 to take the M-8 crown.
