Free Presentation on Sustainable Landscapes

Thursday, Oct. 10: All are welcome to a presentation by Todd Rexine, Great River Greening’s director of operations, and responsible for providing ecologically sensitive and sustainable landscape design services on a variety of Great River Greening projects. He has designed and installed environmentally sensitive landscapes of varying degrees and sizes. Projects have included river and stream bank stabilization, shoreline restoration, urban storm water retrofits, rain gardens, site specific best management practices, and management plans. This free presentation will be held at the Isanti County Government Center in Cambridge at 7 p.m., and is sponsored by the Isanti County Master Gardeners. For more information call 763-689-8254.

Matthew 25 Food Distribution Ministry

Saturday, Oct. 12: Matthew 25 Food Distribution Ministry will be held at Isanti Middle School, 201 Centennial Drive. Food will be distributed beginning at 9:30 a.m. Every person receives two free grocery bags of food.

Fish Lake Township Hall Dedication

Saturday, Oct. 12: There will be an open house dedication of the new playground and picnic shelter at Fish Lake Township hall from 1-3 p.m.  All invited to see the new facility, meet township officials and more.

Grandy Lions Pancake Breakfast

Sunday, Oct. 13: The Grandy Lions will host a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Grandy Community Center, with all proceeds benefitting community projects. Pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee will be served, featuring the famous Grandy Lions pork sausage.

Blessing of the Animals

Sunday, Oct. 13: The Isanti County Humane Society is hosting a Blessing of the Animals Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cambridge, 230 N. Fern St. All are invited to come and bring your pet(s). All animals must be under control of the owner and safe to be around. If you are unable to bring your animal, an article representing them (picture, collar, toy, halter, etc.) can be blessed on their behalf. If possible, bring an unopened small bag or can of animal food for the local food shelf.

Bingo offered in Braham

Sunday, Oct. 13: Bingo will be held at Zimmer Hall at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1050 Southview Ave., Braham. Lunch served 12:30-1:30 p.m. by Sts. Peter and Paul youth group. Bingo from 2-4 p.m. Bring family, friends and neighbors for a fun filled afternoon. Other dates are Oct. 27 and Nov. 10. Sponsored by Braham Area Community Center.

PFLAG Meeting

Out of the Shadows Women’s Program

Monday, Oct. 14: The Out of the Shadows Women’s Program will be held from 7-9 p.m. at Lakeside Christian Church, 32393 Rendova Circle NE (2 miles east of Cambridge on Highway 95). The program continues every Monday through Nov. 25. It explores life’s troublesome emotional areas stemming from unhealthy relationships, abuse or betrayal with the goal of seeing each participant receive understanding and healing. Cambridge Surplus Food Distribution

Tuesday, Oct. 15: The Cambridge Surplus Food Distribution will be held at the Isanti County Fairgrounds. Registration and food distribution will be from 3:30 to 6 p.m. There will not be any preregistration. Do not arrive before 1 p.m. Food will be distributed to one person only per address. Creating Artistic Images

Wednesday, Oct. 16: Cambridge Center for the Arts hosts this exciting iPhone, iPad and smartphone photography class taught by well known area photographer, Dee Kotaska, at the Cambridge Center for the Arts Gallery, 144 Second Ave. SE, Cambridge, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost of the class is $20 for members and $24 for non-members, and may be purchased online at Cambridgecenterforthearts.org or at the Gallery on Tuesdays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m.

Youth Groups at Spirit River

Wednesday, Oct. 16: Spirit River Kid’s Klub (Grades 1-3) & 456 Fellowship (Grades 4-6) will meet at Spirit River Community Center from 5:30-7 p.m. Meals will be provided to all families. Youth Group (Grades 7-12) will also be held from 7:15-8:30 p.m. Spirit River is at 1320 Co. Rd., 5 NE, Isanti.

Harvest Supper at Calvary Ev. 

The annual Harvest Supper and Bake Sale will be held  from 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church of Rush Point.

The bake sale will begin at 4 p.m. The supper menu features meatballs, potatoes, gravy, rolls, baked squash, vegetable, pickles, cole slaw, dessert and beverages. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and under are free. Bake sale proceeds will go to the Caring for Kathy Bohman benefit. Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church is 5.5 miles east of Grandy at County Road 6.

Swedish Meatball Dinner Oct. 12

The St. John Lutheran-Weber Cemetery Board will host a Swedish Meatball Dinner from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

Tickets at the door are $8/adults, $5/ages 6-12 and 5 and under are free. The church is located at 28168 Jodrell St. NE, North Branch.

Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Lawn and Maintenance Care Fund for the Weber and Bradford Cemeteries. Call 763-444-5988 with questions or advance tickets.

Guest speaker at North Isanti Baptist

Hanna Hall will tell her dramatic story at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, at North Isanti Baptist Church in Cambridge.

As a teenager of 16, her life was spared four times as she fled Russian troops during World War II. Hall, a German refugee, fled advancing communists in 1945 and walked 15 months on her flight to freedom.

Through these unusual true experiences, she brings a message of hope and an expression of appreciation for the freedom she finds here in the United States. Refreshments follow.
