Bluejacket Football hangs loss on Bison

Cambridge-Isanti football got back on the winning track by taking it to Buffalo 41-18 in a Mississippi 8  Blue Division home victory.

Halfback Hunter Vavra churned out 157 yards on 24 carries, scoring three touchdowns, to lead the Bluejackets against the Bison. His first score came on a 26-yard run in the first quarter.

The Jackets kept rolling to make it 21-0 in the second quarter when fullback Kyle Chromy ran in from 13 yards out, then quarterback John Solberg sprinted 24 yards for a TD with just under a minute left. Buffalo gave itself a chance by quickly moving downfield and scored on a 20-yard reception with 12 seconds remaining in the half.

Cambridge-Isanti resumed control by delivering a touchdown on its opening possession of the third quarter when Vavra broke home on a 9-yard run. Buffalo again answered back with a score, but Vavra got his hat trick TD on a 10-yard run three minutes into the fourth quarter. Max Knowlton created a 41-12 advantage when he finished the Bluejackets’ scoring on a 30-yard breakaway.

Dakota Johnson and Knowlton led the run-stingy C-I defense with six tackles each, and Chromy added an interception in the win.
